Root canal treatment

The patient came to our clinic with pulsatory pain, asymmetry and a large swelling around the face. After several tests and a digital pics, it quickly turned out that the cause of the discomfort is the heavily damaged upper right central incisor. The patient stated in an interview that the pain lasted for about two weeks.

Root canal treatment – process of the dentist visit.

The endodont doctor decided to apply the root canal treatment. The patient was anesthetized so the  pain was abolished and the whole treatment could be carried out without any pain. In spite of the highly advanced inflammation, the decision was made about the single-session nature of root canal treatment. The tooth was opened enough to allow the dentist easy access to the canal. After its drilling a quick decompression occurred, the purity content began to trickle from the canal. A few rinsing of the root canal with sodium hypochlorite and its mechanical development gradually helped to control the situation. The first step was to determine the working length. This is the basic thing if we use root canal treatment, which prevents possible complications. An indispensable tool for this is a special device for measuring the length of channels, so-called endometer. Thanks to it the doctor can read the correct length of the canal after a few minutes. It should be emphasized that this length does not always coincide with the top of the root tip in the picture. This is due to the fact that sometimes the mouth of the canal is earlier than the root tip itself. Hence, radiological evaluation of the length of the tooth canal should be treated only as an auxiliary one

The root canal was developed with special hand and machine tools, also using a special Reciproc with an integrated endometer, allowing the control of the working length during operation. In the sequence of individual tools, canal files with a gradually increasing diameter were used. In addition, the canal was chemically treated with sodium hypochlorite each time between successive used canal tools. These so-called mechanical and chemical treatment of the canal ensured complete removal of gangrenous masses from the canal, infected tissues and bacterial sterilization.

Obtaining dryness of the treatment area is a prerequisite for proper filling. In this case, despite the large exudate, this was achieved and thus the treatment was discontinued one-time. Accurate and tight filling of the canal is as important as its decontamination and development. In our Clinic we use a system for thermal condensation of gutta-percha. This ensures a perfectly tight filling of the entire canal in three dimensions.
