Any implant can be treated like a foreign body that is used to restore a natural function and aesthetics of the damaged parts of body or organ. The most popular and at the same time the most commonly used, are implants that replace the hard tissue, for example the missing tooth. Implantation is not an easy task, as it is connected with the entire area of dentistry called implantology. With the development of this study there have been established clinics specializing in professional implantation. What is more, the best associations were created, which now join the best dentists from all around the world. Currently, one of the largest international association is the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
Depending on the patients’ needs, we can use various dental implant systems (sets of implants) from different manufacturers. In our clinic we use dental implants produced by the world’s leading manufacturers, such as:
- Implant Direct
Each manufacturer offers a top-quality implants that have been successfully implanted by our dentists. Implants available in our clinic are made from pure titanium. Implants’ surface is previously subjected to appropriate treatment, this is hydrophilic, and has a precisely determined microporosity. All these help to provide a much faster formation of a biological connection between implant and bone. Basically, this phenomenon is called osseointegration of titanium dental implant and bone tissue. According to the definition of osseointegration given by Professor Branemark- the formation of a direct interface between an implant and bone, without intervening soft tissue. That is, implants integrate such that the bone is laid very close to the implant without any intervening connective tissue. The titanium oxide permanently fuses with the bone. The clinical manifestation of the phenomenon of osseointegration results in lack of mobility of the implant.
Formerly, patients were implanted clinics implants teeth made of porcelain that after some time were too brittle, or tantalum ones, which hardness was too low. To date, there appear cases of zirconium implants, what is more popular in western countries, but they are subject to frequent mechanical defects and do not show the biocompatibility as titanium. At one time, very popular were implants coated with synthetically obtained inorganic component of bone. After a few years, however, it turned out that it is subjected to fade, which results in a loss of bone attachment.
If we take thebiocompatibilityof the material into consideration,in the first place,we think ofpuretitanium, which issuperior to all othermetals and alloys. Biocompatibilityalso showshydroxyapatite(material, whichinthe short-termstudiesshowsfaster responsethanpure titanium). However, a long-termmulticenterstudy is advisable to confirm theclinical utilityof hydroxyapatite. Therefore, in our clinic we choose only titanium implants to provide for our patients.
Another very important feature of biphasic implants, used by all of us, is their combination with a supragingival i.e. a cleat. Implants used in the Perfect Smile Clinic show the conical connection, characterized by a very high tightness. Thus, it significantly reduces the migration of bacteria and appearing of efflux. This process is often responsible for the atrophy of bone around the implant, which contribute to the rejection of implants and increase the risk of appearing of peri-implantitis.
Peri-implantitis is the destructive inflammatory process affecting the soft and hard tissues surrounding dental implants. The array of periodontal pathogens found around failing implants (those affected by peri-implantitis) are very similar to those found in association with various forms of periodontal disease. Proper macro-geometry and microgeometry of implants used in the Perfect Smile Clinic significantly reduces the risk of inflammation. However, a lot depends on the state of health of the patient. The risk of eventual rejection of the implant, or inflammation around the implant can be caused by: poor bones’ quality, smoking, ill health, poor hygiene, periodontal diseases, and so on.
