Dental implants

Dental implants are foreign bodies, aiming at the most faithful reproduction of the natural function and natural aesthetics of the damaged part of the body or organ. The most popular, therefore the most commonly used, are implants replacing hard tissues, for example lost teeth. Implanting dental implants is not an easy task, the whole field in dentistry called implantology deals with it. With the development of implantology, dentists began to specialize in the professional implantation of dental implants. There were also associations of the best implantologists from around the world. Currently, one of the largest international implantological associations is the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).

Dental implants – producers.

Depending on the dental situation of the  the patient problem we  use implantological systems (implant sets) from different manufacturers. In our dental clinic, we use, among others, implants of leading global manufacturers, such as:

  • NeoBiotech
  • Implant Direct
  • MIS
  • ICX

Each manufacturer has in its offer the highest quality tooth implants that our dentists successfully use for our Patients. Pure titanium is used in the production of implants prefered in our Clinic. The surface of the implants previously subjected to appropriate treatment is hydrophilic and has a well-defined microporosity. This provides much faster production of the biological connection to the bone. We have here the phenomenon of the process of osseointegration of a dental titanium implant with bone tissue. According to the definition given by Professor Branemarek, we refer to osteointegration as the direct structural and functional connection of an organic, living bone with the surface of a loaded implant. This means that, unlike natural dentition, there is no intermediate tissue between the implant and the bone tissue after insertion of the implant. The clinical manifestation of the phenomenon of osteointegration is the lack of mobility of the implant.

Formerly, dental implants made of porcelain were implanted in clinics but after time turned out to be too fragile. Sometimes with tantalum, but also the hardness turned out to be too low. To this day, there are cases of zirconia implants, more popular in our western neighbors, but also suffer from frequent mechanical defects and do not show such biocompatibility as dental titanium implants. Also, synthetic implants obtained with an inorganic bone component were fashionable at one time. After a few years it turned out, however, that it disappeared in places, which resulted in the loss of the bone attachment.

What is the dental implant produced from?

As for the biocompatibility of the material, in the first time we think of pure titanium, which in this respect exceeds all other metals and alloys. Biocompatibility is also demonstrated by hydroxyapatite (a material which in short-term tests shows a faster bone response than pure titanium). However, a larger group of multicentre long-term studies is indicated to confirm the clinical usefulness of hydroxyapatite. Therefore, we are responsible for the health and comfort of our patients’ choice for implantation only and exclusively titanium implants.

Another very important feature of all two-phase implants we use is their connection to the supragingival part, i.e. the abutment. The implants of all manufacturers used in the Perfect Smile clinic show a conical connection, characterized by a very high tightness. Thanks to this, it significantly reduces the migration of bacteria, there is no so-called bacterial pump, responsible for the bone atrophy around the implants, which contribute to the recoil of implants and increase the risk of periimplantitis.

Periimplantitis is an inflammatory process affecting soft and hard tissues around an integrated, functioning implant. In this situation bone loss around the implant and serous effusions or pus may occur. Appropriate macrogeometry and microgeometry used in the Smile Perfect Smile Clinic significantly reduces the risk of this inflammation. However, the periimplantiis presentation also influences the conditions in which our implantologists have to work. After all, it is not a car mechanic, and we are dealing with a human body. So a lot depends on the health of the patient. The risk of possible implant recoil or inflammation around the implant is influenced by, among others, poor bone quality, smoking, poor overall health, inadequate hygiene, periodontal disease, etc.
